Haley Barbour Has Officially Dropped Out of the 2012 Presidential Race

Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour announced on Monday that he will not run for president in 2012.

"I will not be a candidate for president next year," Barbour, a Republican, said in a statement. "This has been a difficult, personal decision, and I am very grateful to my family for their total support of my going forward, had that been what I decided."

Barbour has decided that he would continue to serve as governor of Mississippi and work to elect the new Republican president of 2012. Barbour, very popular with Washington insiders, had trouble gaining traction in recent polls. This eliminates one name from the many Republican candidates running against President Barack Obama's re-election. Even though Barbour may have been strong with his political views, his election to presidency would have made him the voice of the American people which is the most important aspect of the demanding position.
